Alpamayo’s delegation, which traveled to Santiago, Chile, to represent our school in the final of the Copa Fubolito Bimbo de las Américas, received a trip to the National Stadium in Santiago to watch the Copa América final in recognition for their effort and dedication.
Before they got to see Chile take on Argentina, our team got to experience their own international final of the Copa Futbolito Bimbo de las Américas on the main field at the sports complex for Club Universidad Catolica, in San Carlos de Apoquindo.
The first match saw the Chileans face the Argentinians. In that match, the undefeated champions from Chile’s María Auxiliadora de Viña del Mar beat their Argentinian counterparts from Lomas de San Martín by a score of 3 - 2.
Alpamayo later faced the Argentinian team in a very competitive match of skill. Despite the great physical effort of our boys, the scoreboard read 1 - 0 by the end in favor of the opponents.
Alpamayo started with great determination to win the next game no matter what. Unfortunately, goals by Ismael Rey and Gonzalo Pérez were not enough to bring home the silver and María Auxiliadora came out on top.
When it came time for the award ceremony, the top authorities from Bimbo Chile announced the real prize for all the teams that participated in Bimbo’s final: they would all go watch the final match of the Copa América between Chile and Argentina.
Our champions have truly elevated the name of Alpamayo: The captain Salvador Otero, Luis Ramón Li Tang, Elías Macher, Miguel Quintana, Gonzalo Pastor, Salvador Bardalez, Joaquín Dibós, Gonzalo Pérez, Ismael Rey and Jaime Pérez, accompanied by coaches Milko Fae and Claudio Zegarra.
